How do I connect my Linksys Wireless router to my laptop?

Ok I have the Linksys Wireless-G Router (WRT54G). I have no instruction or CD and need to hook up. I have a laptop and a cable box connected my internet is a. I illeterate team and need simple step by step instructions. I tried everything and cannot get to work. PLEASE HELP

1.] Directly connect the laptop to the router (wired). 2.] Go to address bar and type: 192.168.1.1 3.] Type "admin" as username and "admin" as password and "password" as password. 4.] Search for "Wireless" and click in it. 5.] Look for "Wireless Security" and click it. 6.] The "Security Mode" select "None" if you want your connection Wi-Fi available to all (Read number 8). Select "WEP" for yourself if you want to use. (Go to number 7, if you chose "WEP".) 7.] The "number 1" to create a 10-digit code (case sensitive). 8.] After finished, click Save Settings and output. 9.] Get on your laptop and search for the wireless connection. Once you have found, or connect directly to it or use the code 10 digits to connect if you chose "WEP". 10.] You do. ~
