linksys wireless router manual
Wireless router security settings?

I'm setting up a Linksys wireless router for my recently purchased home that is for 1 desk, 1 laptop, and (later) a printer. There is an option to configure wireless security settings. These are the options: 1. PSK2-Personal (manual says this is the strongest value) 2. PSK – Personal 3. 128 Bit WEP 4. 64 Bit WEP 5. Disable These machines will be used for home banking, trade of stocks and mutual funds, email, and from time to time purchase of the web using my credit card. At home, at least one of these teams always connected to the Internet about 18 hours a day. The ideas on which to choose?

PSK2 Personal is the strongest for home use. If it works for you then go for it. If not, follow with 128 WEP. Use as a seed for at least 15 characters to generate passwords. If you feel comfortable, I would be the MAC filtering as well. This lets you tell the system to have permission to connect. Also, if your router is compatible with dd wrt. DD WRT firmware is a lot of 3rd party routers Linksys and your firewall (iptables) is much safer. Not to mention the many options are available for most home SSH for example, VoIP, syslog. Moreover, Not the wireless security concerns me smart. It poisoned websites, keyloggers, viruses, etc. If you use Linux, then I would not be a concern by them. However, if you use XP, then get: anti-virus software, anti spyware adaware, as if you use Vista x32. If you use Vista x64, then use the 64-bit IE when surfing. Only problem with Internet Explorer 64-bit, is that the Flash player does not work.
