Why am I receiving only local connection using Ethernet over wireless router?

Ok … Soo many problems. I have a Linksys wireless router I've used before no problem, in our new home w / new interenet I can not get anywhere. Internet works fine when I connect my laptop (which of course runs on Vista) for your cable modem. However, when I plug the modem into the router and then my laptop in order to configure the router the connection can only get a local connection, do not have Internet access. Also, when I type in the web based configuration page (192.168.1.1) I the Linksys setup page, but a blank page for a firmware update. (Which I did!) I have also reset the router, but that did nothing. HELP! Thanks:)

if you have the power when the router is resetting makes using a pen or paper clip and hold pressed the reset button for about 5 to 10 seconds and then release? Does that help? Obviously, you are given a minute or two until the lights stop flashing – Given that page, then it sounds like a bad firmware flashing and I suggest you call tech support from Linksys and it should be able to help. firmware also you got it – Did you check which version you have router, etc to ensure you have the correct firmware for the router? Also at the bottom the router or if you get your router's manual does it say that its 192.168.1.1 and presume thats what you used to remote into it? If you can try 192.168.0.1 but I know mine after a hard reset will also 192.168.1.1 when you're doing a firmware update make sure you have a cable connection to a router NO Wireless.
