connect linksys router without the cd? help as soon as possible?
I'm trying to connect a wireless router, but my mother lost the CD. its already installed on the computer that the router is connected. and I need a password or anything USB or UBS. and I have to connect to my laptop, but says I need the cd download it. someone please help as soon as possible
First of all, look at the bottom of the router to your model number and go to www.linksys.com and see for yourself if anything is available for download from it (other than firmware updates). If you can not find anything, you have to do is look at the back of the router to a hole Reset little stick and a straightened paper clip inside to reset the router to its original state when you first got it. Now the routers are not the same as those adapters. You do not need to install anything on the computer you are configuring the router up (at all). Now go to: http://www.routerpasswords.com/ And for the password you'll need for your router. When you see what user name and password you use, write these somewhere or keep note of them. Now look at the back your router. View all Ethernet ports no? One is separated from the others and named something like modem or cable / DSL. This is where you need to connect your cable / DSL modem using an Ethernet cable. If you do not have any, you have to buy two of them in the store. You will need a second Ethernet cable to connect the router your laptop (or any equipment to be connected to). Connect the Ethernet cable to any of the four ports on the back of the router, not separate from others or label "Modem" or "Cable / DSL" and connect the other end to the (laptop or any computer you are using). Make sure your router is plugged into an outlet and is now on. The same goes for cable modem / DSL! If you've done everything I've said now, on your laptop, Go to Start -> Run and type "cmd" (without quotes) and press Enter. (or if you are in Vista, click the Windows Orb at the bottom left and right start typing "cmd" and press Enter). Now in the window that appears (command line is black), type "ipconfig" (without quotation marks) and press Enter. Look what it says Default Gateway and write this somewhere too. You can close this window black command line and open your Internet browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, or whatever else you want to use). Write what you saw for the Default Gateway and press Enter. You should see a window asking by a user name and password. Set the username and password, and will head to the control panel and you'll be ready! Now what direction going on in your browser to reach the control panel, and you know the admin password and also combined to achieve this. I hope this helps!
