Can I set up WEP security on my Linksys router via a wireless connection?

I can access management menus (wireless) but every time I try to WEP security, then click enters into an hourglass that never ends. Then I loose internet access I have to use the reset button to return to the defaults. One of the geeks I work with tells me he has to use a (cable) connection to the safety devices router configuration. The part that doenst make sense to me is, why have not I can access it (without cable) if your not going to let me change the settings? I have the WRT54G, the same as seen at the address below. . .% 2FLayout http://www.linksys.com/servlet/Satellite?c=L_Product_C2&childpagename=US & cid = 1149562300349 & pagename = Linksys% 2FCommon% 2FVisitorWrapper & lid = 0034939789B01

The router can be reset once you change the settings. When that happens, any Internet connection is lost, cable or wireless. When it comes back up, the connection is encrypted so that not reconnect. Try again, but instead of restarting the router, leave the wireless network and then meet with … enter the WEP key to configure. If that fails …. test the connection by cable. If you think it is often necessary to change the key for security …. WEP can be cracked with relative ease. Try WPA or WPA2 if your router supports it. Or, try enable filtering MAC address (again, if your router supports it).
