Can I set up a wireless network without a PC / Mac?

Today, in my house we have two PC's USB WiFi adapter, a macbook with built-in WiFi card, a PlayStation 3, an Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and all competing for the wireless signal. I have the Xbox and the PS3 connected directly to my Linksys router, but all teams must rely on the radio, because the router is too far. Since I did not install the router on a computer, the signal does not have security. If I had connect it to one of the computers, configure, and then move it back to the game console, will it work? In other words, I have a radio set without the need continuously connected to a computer. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, this would work. Simply connect the router through a cable to one of the teams. You should be able to use the web interface (go to a browser and type: http://192.168.1.1) for more advanced settings, or simply use the CD that came with the router. Be sure to use WPA or WPA2 security (do not use WEP). Furthermore, type the key (eg password) somewhere not to forget. (Although it should be pretty easy to go through the process again if you forget.) If you want additional security (these are probably only available in the web interface): Turn off SSID broadcast – this will make the network seem to be invisible – that used to appear on a list, but as long as you know the name, you can connect. Also, changing the name to something unique. Turn on MAC address filtering. – This is a bit complicated, but should be fairly easy to configure. Only allow network devices while they are "listed". Think of it as a club doorman. All you have to do is add the MAC (each network device has a unique code) Management teams and game consoles on the list. The router may also allow you to select currently connected to the list – this is the easiest way. PS You can use the web interface cable or wireless devices, and has more control than the CD. But if the creation or change the configuration of wireless network make sure you connect to a wired connection you do not lose the signal.
